A frozen herb mix sold by Aldi has been recalled due to the possible presence of E. coli bacteria. Authorities warn consumers not to consume the affected product under any circumstances.
According to the National Authority for Trade and Consumer Protection (NKFH), ALDI Hungary Food Ltd. has initiated a recall of its product “ALL SEASONS Frozen Mixed Herbs in Resealable Bag (8 herbs), 75 g.” The measure was taken because the presence of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) bacteria cannot be ruled out.
In cooperation with the authority, the company has taken immediate action: the affected batches have been withdrawn from circulation and a consumer-level recall has been launched. The authority is monitoring the handling of the returned products, including their destruction or removal.
Product details:
- Product name: ALL SEASONS Frozen Mixed Herbs (8 herbs)
- Packaging: 75 g
- Best before date: January 20, 2028
- Batch number: 4254431
- Manufacturer: Clama GmbH & Co.
- Reason for recall: microbiological non-compliance
STEC is a pathogenic bacterium that can produce Shiga toxin, which may cause severe diarrheal illness and inflammation of the colon. While healthy individuals often experience mild symptoms, the infection can be more serious in vulnerable groups such as infants, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems. Proper heat treatment (thorough cooking) destroys the bacteria, while consuming raw or undercooked food poses a risk.
The authority emphasizes that anyone who has purchased the product with the specified best before date and still has it in their possession should not consume it.
