Despite the Italian boxer forfeiting the match against the Algerian biologically male competitor out of fear for her safety, Luca Hámori came to win.
As is well known, the Italian girl gave up the fight after receiving two massive blows from a competitor who was born biologically male. Of the two chromosomes that determine gender, one is X, and the other is Y, clearly indicating a male birth.
Although the International Boxing Association banned Algerian boxer Imane Helif from all their matches, the IOC did not consider this and allowed him to compete.
Luca wrote about her feelings and intentions on her social media.
„It’s hard to put into words what I feel right now. I have so many thoughts about yesterday. I am grateful. I am grateful to you all, and I am grateful to myself. Yesterday I managed to win my second match, which is a huge achievement for me. I knew an entire country was rooting for me, and that in my hometown of Kőszeg many were anxious for me, but I didn’t expect to see the town square filled with people cheering for me after my match. It’s an indescribable feeling… I can’t thank you all enough.
I can’t thank each and every one of you personally, though I would if I could, because every word, every message brought me closer to my goal. I watched the videos and looked at the pictures with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face, and I thought that no matter how the Olympics end, I have already won! You all give me strength that you can’t even imagine!! I want to thank everyone who thought of me and cheered for me in any way! As for my next match… they can’t scare me! Whether it’s a boy or a girl, I want to win. In my humble opinion, I don’t think it’s fair for this competitor to compete among women, but I can’t deal with that now. I can’t change it; life has given me this challenge, and I have to solve it.
I know why I am here, and I know my goals. I can promise you one thing… I will do everything in my power to win, and I will fight as long as I can!
