He committed murder, yet he was able to leave the interrogation as a free man.

Dr. Attila Petőfi, Major General and Chief Superintendent, along with Lieutenant Colonel Gyula Bogdány, Head of the Criminal Department at the Bács-Kiskun County Police Headquarters, held a press conference to provide updates on the investigation into the death of Tamás Till.

Background:
On May 24, 2000, a horrific murder shocked Hungary, and its details have recently resurfaced in the spotlight. The case involved 16-year-old János F., who was working at József V.’s farm when he encountered 11-year-old Tamás Till cycling along the road. The meeting proved fatal: János F. first asked the boy for help, then led him to the woodshed next to the workshop, where the boy became the victim of brutal violence.

According to the statements made at the press conference, János F. assaulted the child with his bare hands and then killed him with a carpenter’s clamp. Medical examinations revealed that the young victim had rib, skull, and vertebral fractures, clearly indicating severe physical abuse.

During the initial investigation, significant procedural errors were made by the police, allowing the perpetrator to escape punishment.

Since the murderer of Tamás Till was between 16 and 18 years old at the time of the crime and committed the act in 2000, the crime is not subject to a statute of limitations. However, János F.’s criminal liability expired in 2015. As a result, he was questioned as a witness and subsequently released.
