The week didn’t go well for the president of the Józsefváros Public Safety Foundation, who is also running for the presidency of the Democratic Coalition (DK).
Abd El Rahim Ali, the DK’s Józsefváros president, realized at dawn after a heavily spent night out that his recently purchased iPad and AirPods had gone missing from his coat.
The story has a relatable prelude that could happen to anyone who isn’t a homebody and enjoys socializing—even if it’s with Norwegians.
The evening passed in a pleasant atmosphere until Abd El Rahim Ali decided it was time to head home. As he later explained, he was already heavily intoxicated at that point and wanted to take a walk to immerse himself in his thoughts—a habit that helps him reflect on the day’s events.
On his way home, however, he made an unpleasant discovery: his recently purchased iPad and AirPods were missing from his coat pocket, as reported by the Józsefvárosi Újság.
The real trouble began when he returned to the scene. He was not allowed back into the apartment, and his initial quiet knocking turned into loud banging. This startled a resident, who called the police. The officers, upon arriving, noted his heavy intoxication and took him for a blood test, which revealed traces of THC in his system. Ali admitted to smoking a joint, saying he accepted it after being offered multiple times.
To avoid further embarrassment and potential attacks from pro-government media, he resigned from his position.
Unsurprisingly, the government-aligned media wasted no time labeling him a drug addict, launching a campaign against him. Despite the police initially publishing the incident anonymously, Magyar Nemzet quickly uncovered Ali’s identity.
This is not the first difficult moment in Ali’s life. He previously made headlines for cleaning Lutz Gizella’s grave.
